Harper Adeline is here. She was born June 20th, 2009 at 1:15 pm. She weighed 8lbs. 1 oz and as you can see is perfect in every way.
It's amazing how in an instant everything can change. It was real while I was pregnant but the minute they put her in my arms it was so different.
I've spent the past 10 days enjoying every second of her being here (yes, even those huge crying fits). Thankfully right now she is a very laid back baby & those crying fits are few and far between. Fingers crossed that that demeanor lasts!
Surprisingly I've actually found I have lots of time to knit since she is here (I recommend a ring sling & baby wearing). So I'm working on a simple yet effective shawl for my sister in law's very belated birthday gift.
Hopefully pics of that and more baby pics soon!!
And nothing much to report. We are all doing well, just playing the waiting game now. Of course now that she is free & clear to come by all the doctors she will probably wait til well after my due date to make her arrival.
In the meantime we have been nesting. Organizing, cleaning & finishing up the nursery.
Our theme is "vintage modern" we wanted it to be girly but fun & really pop. Our style is very mid-century modern so we wanted to kind of go with that & also pay homage to the colors/toys we had back in the late 70's early 80's.
Hopefully our little girl will like it!
Here are a few pics:
The crib is gulliver from ikea. The shelf & dresser are both thrift store finds & no worries the toys came out of the shelf after the picture. I just liked the way they looked from a design standpoint.

The dresser is a thrift store find we painted to match the natrual/white look of the changing table. The plates were a housewarming gift from someone with excellent taste.
This shelf is also a thrift store find. It houses lots of books & toys from back in the day. The bouncer was just too adorable to not buy.

Our changing table. The fabric portraits are all vintage fabrics from my fabric stash.
Our glider & Sofa bed. The cover on each of these was pretty ugly before so the sofa bed got covered with an Orla Kiely tablecloth from target & the glider with some cheap-o fabric from the dollar fabric store.
We are still working on a mobile for over the glider but otherwise, that is it! Now it's just the waiting game til she gets here!
One of the most gratifying things about baby knits (beyond the relative quickness in which they can be finished) is that so many of them can be knit up with just one skein of yarn. I managed to finish two things for baby this week at only one skein of yarn a piece!
First up is another toy. Yes, our little girl is going to have a ton of handmade toys (it's really my intention to get her hooked on handmade goodness before she is old enough to be corrupted by saturday morning commercials and only want plastic crap)!

I loved this pattern! Of course it's mainly because Ysolda is a genius but it's also because it took just one skein on Moda Dea Washable wool to knit up this cutie! The only changes I made was to 1. Not make him a polar bear (I just didn't see a white toy as a good idea) and 2. Embroider his nose on differently. Lots of folks on Ravelry have had issue with how pointy his nose is. I knit it as written and just gave him a nose that was easy for me to embroider on and not have it look long and pointy.
My second knit is actually a one skein sweater.

It's the Garter stitch wrap top from Simple Knits for Cherished Babies by Erika Knight. This is another super fast & easy knit. I used one skein of ONline linie 2 supersocke silk. I made two mods with this one, I went up a size and I omitted the ribbon closure for a button & snap. Based on comments made on the project page on Ravelry it seems that this sweater knit up for a newborn is teeny tiny so I knit up the 3 month size and when I compared it to some of the 0-3 month clothes I have it seems spot on.
I figured even though our little one will be born in the sweltering heat of a Georgia summer, she will not be used to air conditioning so a simple sweater for her to wear on her ride home in the A/C would be appropriate!
Now on to more stashbusting projects! I'm trying to get as much knitting as I can in now as I am sure 2.5 months from now all I will want to do with my free time is sleep!
